Day 1 Our guide will pick you up at the airport in Copiapó. 2 hour drive into the mountains towards the altitude of 3,100 meters above sea level (m.a.s.l.). In these Andean foothills we pick our first camp. Afternoon briefing on expedition details and time to relax and start acclimatizing. Dinner. Camp.

Day 2 Early breakfast, pick up camp and move up the mountain towards Laguna Santa Rosa, habitat for abundant wildlife, with good chances of seeing guanacos, flamingos amongst diverse birdlife. We will set up camp on this beautiful lagoon with time for lunch and have our second hike to acclimatize to the altitude of the new camp, at 3,780 m.a.s.l.. Finish the way with a good dinner, camp.

Day 3 Early breakfast for day hike. Acclimatization hike for close to 4 hours, return to camp for lunch. Afternoon to enjoy the surroundings and further acclimatize. Dinner, camp.

Day 4 Early breakfast and lift camp to move up towards Laguna Verde at 4,340 m.a.s.l. to he hot thermals springs present by the Laguna Verde are clear evidence of the volcanic geology. Here we will set up camp and after lunch have the opportunity to enjoy the hot springs. Dinner and camp.

Day 5 Early breakfast to then have our third acclimatization hike. Walk to Mulas Muertas to 5,000 m.a.s.l. in close to 6 hours roundtrip to return to camp at Laguna Verde. Afternoon to relax. Dinner and camp

Day 6 Early breakfast, pick up camp and move up to Refugio Atacama 5,260 m.a.s.l. Pitch camp, lunch and afternoon free to acclimatize to new altitude and surroundings.

Day 7 Early breakfast and prep for day hike. 5 hour roundtrip to Refugio Tejos at 5,837 m.a.s.l. on this hike we will carry up some of the gear and establish a deposit for our summit attempt. Return to camp for lunch and rest in the afternoon. Dinner and camp.

Day 8 Early breakfast, pick up camp and prep bags to hike to Refugio Tejos. Light lunch and hike closed to 4 hours carrying our camp, up to Refugio Tejos for our summit camp.

Day 9 Alpine start breakfast in the dark. If the conditions are right, start at 5 a.m. our ascent to the summit of the volcano. The climb takes close to 7- 9 hours where you can expect temperatures to be below -25Cº with winds up to 60km/hr. This ascent traverses around the volcano’s crater to the climb up to the summit at 6,860. After enjoying the summit, the descent takes close to 4-5 to return to Refugio Tejos. Dinner and camp.

Day 10 Extra summit day for meteorology and general conditions.

Day 11 Breakfast and descent to Refugio Atacama. Load gear into transfer and head back down to town and drop off at a hotel in Copiapó. Closing celebratory dinner. Hotel.

Day 12 Breakfast in hotel, pick up and transfer out to airport. End of services.

Note: The program can be modified due to meteorological conditions or any reason that may affect the safety of the group. On the summit attempt if after evaluation our guide decides that we should not carry on due to weather we will wait for conditions to improve, and if they do not we will descend to Refugio Tejos. These situations are not possible to anticipate and are out of our control and constitute no reason for refund.
